Serving as the central meeting place for the three leaders of the Allied Earth States Omashu stands as a proxy capital and is where the military is organized from. Holding a large garrison of troops it is well protected in the event of an attack made from flank. Since the days of Aang the city has grown and has become the center of trade as well as culture throughout the States. Guarded by additional garrisons positioned in strategic locations in the valleys and hills surrounding it, they are connected by tunnels leading directly back to the city for quick communication and are easily destroyed by Earthbenders in a retreat should the enemy find them. Such is the nature of these tunnels that they are perfect to deliver a flanking opportunity to the defenders of Omashu making the city a veritable fortress. As it is a land island and walled on all sides with but a single door serving as both entrance and exit the city is very hard to siege and seemingly impossible to take in a direct attack. Thus the Allies see their lands as they see the city-fortress of Omashu; Easy to defend, very well protected, and most importantly, sure to last.
