Her outfit is somewhat black in color, with a blue tail like piece. The top to her outfit is a dark grey blouse that cuts down the middle of the neck to her left side. It is held together on the sides using two light grey pieces on each side. The top goes up her neck and down past her hips, with a blue fabric dangling from the back. She has two sleeves that connect to her upper arm, which are the same color as the rest of her outfit. At the tips of them there is a very nice lace design in black. For pants she wears grey pants that fall to just below her knees. Just like her sleeves, the bottom part is covered in the same design. For shoes she wears black flats, which give her optimal movement when she fire bends. Around her left ankle is a blue thread, something she got from her mother when she was a child. She also tends to keep her fingernails painted black and cut short, or else she’ll chew on them. On her right ring finger she wears a golden and blue laced ring.

History Info
Home Country; Fire Nation
siblings; Older Brother; Shui Mechi
history; Before Neliel was born, her parents met at the Southern Water Tribe. Her mother was kidnapped many years before, and her father was part of a rescue attempt. When he found her mother, she had a three-month-old child. He was the child of another woman who had been taken and died in childbirth. Neliel’s father took both the child and his future wife back to the Fire Nation. Once there he married her, as they had fallen in love while journeying back home. They tried many times to have a child of their own to keep Shui company, but failed each and every time.
Years later, Neliel’s father went back as a Fire Nation soldier. By this point, it was known that Shui was a firebender. They had just given up on a having a child, so it was a surprise when Neliel’s mother learned she was pregnant right as her husband was in the Earth Kingdom. She tried many times to get in contact with her husband, but it was pointless. She stopped working so her baby would be safe, and had Shui spend more time learning to take care of himself. In the months before Neliel’s birth, Shui decided he was going to be the greatest firebender ever so that the baby would be proud of him. He went into overboard on training, and accidentally burned his own arm when he tripped while bending. Neliel’s mother freaked out, and vowed to never allow her children to ever bend again.
Of course, a few months later, Neliel was born. She was a small baby, but loud. Shui, who listened to his mother, spent most of his time with Neliel. He was amazed at the size of the baby, as many ten year olds would. Shui and his mother would take turns watching Neliel all throughout the night. While many of Shui’s friends were disappointed that he wouldn’t spend time with them, they began slowly gaining interest in the young child as well. Neliel was a quick learning, and by the age of two she could walk. She would follow Shui everywhere, so her mother figured she could go back to work, after living off whatever they got from her husband for the past two years. At this point, Shui realized he could bend again without his mother realizing. Once again he was obsessed with bending. Neliel was too young to understand, but she would watch him bend for hours.
When Neliel turned five, her mother began to realize that Neliel had an extreme interest in fire. One day, on her way home, Neliel’s mother saw Neliel bend fire. She was shocked to see Neliel do something that she had forbidden to ever let her kids do. It was around this time that Neliel’s father came back from the army. He was just on a short break, as the Fire Nation Army needed everyone they possibly could to work. It was a sweet meeting of a father finally meeting his daughter. His wife told him how their daughter could firebend, and waited for his reaction. He was proud, since both of his kids could help protect their people one day. Neliel’s mother made the decision to allow her kids to firebend again, and decided against telling her husband how she had previously banned it. Before long, he was gone again, leaving his family to take care of itself.
At six, Neliel would go with Shui all the time to watch him bend at the river. Before long, she would run into the river and splash him as he bended his fire. This was when they learned she wouldn’t be able to swim, after she dove in too far and almost drowned. Shui was able to pull her out and dry her off before taking her home silently. It was around this time that Neliel’s mother found a beautiful blue lace string and tied it loosely around Neliel’s ankle.
In Neliel’s seventh year of life, Shui finally considered himself good at bending. He would teach Neliel simple moves and help her in every way possible. He was the most loving older brother that anyone had ever seen. Within the small village, Shui was the best bender, besides the elders. At seventeen, he was one of the few boys who hadn’t left to fight in the war. He wouldn’t tell anyone his reasons, not even his own family. Neliel didn’t really care to understand, as she never wanted her brother to leave her. She loved bending with him whenever she could. Almost everything she learned was from Shui.
Soon, when Neliel was ten, Shui was finally confronted about why he didn’t join the secret army. He and Neliel had been training at a nearby river when a group of the villagers arrived. They began shouting at him for not wanting to fight, about being a coward. He picked up Neliel, shot flames towards the villagers, and ran home. Once they arrived, Shui left Neliel in their room and grabbed everything he needed. He wrote two notes, stuck one on his mother’s bed, the other he gave to Neliel. He told her to never let anyone read the note, or else. Being small, Neliel barely understood, but she listened. She hid the note inside of her stuffed animal Turtle Duck and watched as Shui left. She stayed in her room for hours, until her mother returned home. Upon reading the note her son left, she burst into tears and ran to the village square, leaving Neliel alone again. She grabbed the note her brother left for her mother. It read:
“Mother, I must leave. The townspeople don’t accept me, I’m sorry. I’m different. One day I’ll return, don’t worry. I’ll keep Neliel safe forever. –Shui”
While Neliel was somewhat confused, she understood. Her brother didn’t believe in what his people were fighting for. All she could assume was that he knew something he wasn’t suppose to know. She ran after her mother, hoping to learn what exactly happened. Once she arrived in the small village square, she saw a large group of villagers. Her mother was arguing with them, but Neliel couldn’t hear what exactly it was about. A few minutes later, her mother came over and rushed her home. There, Neliel’s mother explained how Shui was a traitor, and that she can’t look up to him anymore. Outwardly, Neliel agreed. On the inside, she knew she had to read her note and always follow her brother.
That night, Neliel read the note. She was shocked to read what her brother had written:
“Nellie, I love you. I’m sorry I have to leave you like this, without telling you anything. I’ll always be watching you, and if you need me I’ll help you. Father and mother aren’t to be trusted. They believe in what is wrong. One day I’ll come get you. So keep waiting, and always look forward. Train hard, okay? –Shui”
By the time Neliel was thirteen, she was already the best firebender. Almost every firebender in her village went into the secret army, so the village could be quite empty. Everyday Neliel would train by the river and wish her brother was still with her. While she was training one day, she heard shouts from the village. She ran back, only to see a group of benders destroying the village. They wanted all the benders, they were shouting. Neliel hurried through the back path to her home, using her bending whenever someone got to close. At home, her mother was hiding under the bed. She left her mother there and went to pack up her belongings in a small sack. As she was about to leave, her mother stopped her, and explained how her father had died years ago. Her mother told her she was going to stay, and let the men kill her so she could be with her husband again.
Though Neliel didn’t want to, she left her mom and ran to the river. A group of men were waiting there, as they knew it was an escape route. Neliel did the only thing she could to get away, jump into the river. In all of the years she had trained there, only a few times did she ever enter the water after her incident. Immediately, she began drowning. Only able to pop up out of the water ever few seconds, Neliel had no idea what was going on the shore. Before passing out, she felt someone pull her out of the water and onto the opposite shore.
She awoke to a face she hadn’t seen in years; Shui’s. He was still wet, but had made a fire. Neliel was wrapped in blankets and had trouble breathing. Shui noticed she was awake and told her he would always be there for her. He took care of her for a week until explaining that they would live together, hidden, in the Earth Kingdom. Neliel agreed, but still wanted to know why Shui hated the Fire Nation. He explained that he had learned about a plan to kill off their entire village and take the benders years ago- it was all so that the secret army could expand. Neliel was confused, but she understood his hate. She promised to never trust a firebender from her nation again.
A year later, a group of earth-benders found Neliel and Shui. They attacked in the middle of the night, when the two were both asleep. As soon as the ground began moving, they woke up and prepared to attack. After a short fight, Shui grabbed Neliel and told her they would have to split up. Of course Neliel didn’t want to leave her brother, but she understood. They both ran away quickly, leaving the earth-benders confused. Neliel now had to fend for herself, but she knew she could do it. She continued to wander throughout the land, stealing only when she needed to.
At fifteen, she found a small village with normal people that functioned correctly. No one knew her, so she decided to live there, as if she was an orphan. Everyone accepted her cheerful personality and took her in as if she had lived there her entire life. She stopped bending for quite some time at this point, so that the people would completely trust her. At some point in her life there, she learned about the Burning Legion, and she knew her brother was there. She decided to live in the village until she could better take care of herself, until leaving to find him when she was seventeen.
In the present, she is still searching for her brother. Neliel travelled across the lands towards the Burning Legion. Deciding that, since it was so big, she would be able to track her brother, she hurried to the once Fire Nation. Upon arriving, she was surprised at the massive size of the Legion. While she is now on the land, she will never give up on finding her brother and living happily again.
