One of the most startling things about Erity, and often the first thing noticed, was her remarkably pale hair the color of spun sunlight and fine enough to seemingly float even with the weight of it hanging to her lower back in small waves. Her bangs cut across her forehead to almost hide one of her dreamily wide silver eyes which usually hold a look of mild curiosity or complete abstraction. The gowns she wears are generally pale blue, purple or white with silver, green or black accents, cut into a wide-sleeved kimono style accented with a lightweight obi and a cunningly built-in hood to shield her pale skin from the sun at the height of the Temple's grounds. The slits built into the side of her clothing for manouverability are well-hidden by her sleeves unless she's moving a great deal; for the sake of decency she wears pale leggings under the ensemble. Her form is willowy and well-proportioned though often muffled by layers of fabric, but this does not impede her natural grace and airy lightness of step. Unless something has her complete attention she generally wears an expression of disinterested thoughtfulness. The staff she carries is crafted of willow and delicately carved with various flowers. Her pet winged-lemur Cai always stays nearby, whether on Erity's shoulder or a tree branch when not swooping through the air.

Overall Personality; Most people assume, at least in the case of Erity Lien, that first impressions are everything. She looks for all the world like a complete space cadet, distracted and seeming at times to almost forget the world existed, or at least willing to forgo it for the variety of thoughts that chased each other through her mind. This wouldn't be the case though. Far from being insane or abstracted enough to lose the real world her mind simply accepts it with one portion while the rest concentrates on other things that peak her interest. Her simple willingness to see without interfering in what's happening around her aids in her learning process and her observational skills are second to almost none. Her open-minded ways often lead her to an unseen or irrational conclusion at times, and there are those who see this as a sign of insanity from such a young, odd girl. The few that are willing to overlook her seemingly vapid and almost clumsy social ways quickly learn of her loyalty, kindness and willingness to help however she's able, and this has helped her stay away from retreating completely into her mind. When Airbending she absorbs herself completely in the art and adds a surprisingly lithe grace all her own to her practice exercises.
She exists in a constant state of wonder and seems to trust the entire state of the world on faith, but underneath what people generally see of her exists a sharp and quick mind that's fearless in confronting what it knows of the world and turning it on it's ear. She has a sort of quiet curiosity that consumes her, along with a love of knowledge so she has an understanding of which areas are least known- this helps her in her quest to discover everything about all areas of life. While seeming distracted she is in fact very thoroughly thinking about a topic others may not have noticed or even realized that she had stumbled upon, such as the habits of lemurs or why certain techniques cause their own particular Airbending effects. With others her tendency to expose the truth she sees as evident can be a bit disconcerting and even put people off, but she bears this burden with good grace and treasures those who understand her reasoning as her greatest friends. Those less understanding take her constantly spacy expression and soft-spoken ways as proof of her soft-headed nature and do bully her a bit; she never lets whether or not this bothers her show, instead either trusting in the good nature of humanity in general to tell her that it's 'all in good fun' or reminding herself that in the end it's all immaterial anyway. When it comes to more tangible information, even that which others see as 'myth' or 'fable' she shows a good deal more authority. She's also been known to be very comforting and helpful with matters of a disconcerting nature, relaying painful or frightening information with a calm that shows her faith in the ability of others to overcome hardships.
History Info
Home Country; Western Air Temple
siblings; Saiyumi, 20
history;Life at the Western Air Temple was never very strenuous, and that was a fortunate thing for the baby girl who was shortly after birth named Erity Lien. Most of the children born into the place were children of the monks themselves or various orphans with nowhere else to go; she was of the former group, her mother being one of the caretakers of the Temple itself as well as an Airbender. The communal living situation meant that all of the adults were responsible for all of the children, so there was never a question of her parentage; her mother was of course responsible for the bulk of her care, but otherwise there were plenty of aunts and uncles to look in on her progress from time to time and other children to play with. She knew that she had one sister by the same mother, Saiyumi, who was a few years older, but she was no closer to her than any of the other children.
Even as a baby there was a very distinctive personality to the small, pale girl; when watching her eyes seemed to absorb whatever happened before her, even when she should have been distracted by another matter, and problem-solving came as easily to her as eating or breathing. Her kind nature led her to always try to help, and what she observed she could generally repeat with an alarming accuracy, from writing to complicated dance steps. All through her early childhood she grew at an intellectual pace ahead of that of the other children around her, but in the open-minded Temple atmosphere that wasn't looked down on in the slightest. Rather than trying to force her conformity Erity was instead allowed to pursue her own natural interests. Reading came easily enough but she was more of a hands-on learner, enjoying the process of learning by watching and listening. Nature, astronomy, martial arts, even painting were picked up through rote memorization of the actions of others tempered with her own innate creativity.
As she grew older and her experiences in the world grew more extensive she allowed her mind to wander more, still keeping a keen eye on her surroundings- but when there was nothing new to see she extemporized far more within her own mind, drawing startlingly accurate insights on the state of her world. Around the age of eight she found a small lemur who hadn't been able to keep up with her family; she managed to lure the small thing closer with food and quiet patience, then nursed it back to health, bringing the runt to almost full size. Not wanting to interfere with its freedom Erity never tried to keep it as a pet but once it came time to release the lemur she simply wouldn't stay gone. Taking this as a sign of friendship the girl named her Cai and they've been constant companions ever since.
Aided by her new friend, who often kept her out of trouble as well as alerting her to new and interesting things Erity's mental acuity grew even faster. Before long she was learning the more complicated dynamics of the air and how that related to the world around her, increasing her skill in Bending to a level a bit ahead of her peers and reinforcing the elder's decision to let her grow at her own pace. There were some areas where she lacked, such as social refinement and the ability to lie, but within the free-spirited society this wasn't seen as a terrible thing. Even as she progressed there were troubling times for her though. Her mother, a healer, caught an unknown ailment from a more nomadic member of their Temple; within days he was ill and the epidemic had begun to spread. Quick action quarantined those who had come in touch with the disease- but her mother had already been exposed, and died along with several others. The death of the only parent she'd ever known saddened the ten year old deeply but she moved through on the faith that she'd see her again in the spirit world after her own death.
After some time things seemed to return to normal, with the young girl's excursions ranging a bit further to encompass not only the surrounding forests and mountains but all of the way to the nearby beaches where she would watch the eel-dolphins and other creatures, as well as the way the winds affected the sand and water. She also began to venture out later in the evening and became passionate in learning astronomy, and the beach was one of the clearest places to view the night sky. One such evening she found a boy about her own age washed up onto the shore; after reviving Kaoru she learned of the death of his parents, long-distance fisherman from the Northern Water Tribe, by pirates. Without a second thought she brought him to the temple to recover. Bonded by the death of their parents and the rescue they became close friends- she was even the one to discover the truth about his 'dark side' and gave him the name Yuu. His far-distant island village never came to get him, most likely believing he and his parents dead, and Erity had him as a companion for three years before he left on his own quest.
With the rest of her friends and extended Air Nomad family nearby she continued to learn and grow, becoming a bit more whimsical and thoughtful as time passed. Her slight lead over the other children in her age group remained constant and along with astronomy she also took an interest in first aid, training with the bonesetter and healer who had replaced her mother. The time passed and it was three years before Kaoru returned, a bit different but still recognizable as himself. He'd managed to find his island and learn more Waterbending on his trip, and a few days into his visit it was decided that Erity would travel with him in agreement to a promise of exploring the world they'd made as children.

The wind was steady that day, for there was almost never a day where it didn't swirl around the mountain temple in its own particular currents and eddies- but this time there wasn't anything unusual happening, and that was imporant. Her expression contemplative but dreamy Erity picked up a long flight feather from one of the many birds that flittered among the garden trees, then looked it over curiously before tossing it into the air. As it began to drift slowly back down she took a step and swung her arms around and in front of her, creating a quick blast of air so fast it could almost be seen in the surrounding air. Caught in it the feather sped up with almost impossible quickness and flew- to stick exactly in the center of the target she'd drawn on a plan of wood, half-buried there.[/size]
"Very nice," she heard a warm, older voice say to the side of her, drawing a faint and slightly mysterious smile from the sixteen year old's lips. "You seem to have a talent for accuracy and precision as well as innovation."
It wasn't unusual to hear good work praised among the relaxed and happy monks but that didn't mean that having efforts recognized mattered any less. "Thank you, Monk Tesku," she replied in a polite but distracted tone, her mind already going over what she'd done and how she could improve it further. Did she need a stronger feather, or simply more speed?
A quiet laugh drew her gently from her thoughts. "You will have to work on it later, my child. Haven't you noticed the time?"
As though on cue her constant confidant and pet Cai swooped down from thermal she'd been riding, her voice high and chittering as she rubbed her tiny lemur belly. Cocking her head the girl looked across the courtyard at the lengthening shadows to where the sun was almost setting. "Oh yes, dinner. Thank you." Smiling more widely she turned and began to skip toward the kitchen, hoping all of the while that the cooks had made their special berry tarts.
