Overall Personality;
Kaoru for the most part is a very sweet and kind person. While shy and almost nervous around new people, once he warms up to them he becomes fairly open and honest. He can also be quite protective of the people that are closer to him and will try to do everything he can to keep them safe. He doesn’t exactly have the best sense of humor; if anything it should be considered dry but on occasion a decent joke might slip from his lips. Despite what happened in his childhood, Kaoru still loves the sea and usually feels comfortable on boats. He loves sweets and has a soft spot for most animals, though he prefers dogs over everything else.
There is, however a major flaw in his personality. Kaoru was, as he calls it “cursed” with a split personality that he’s had since birth. His other personality is named Yui, shortened from his last name Yuichi. Yui is vastly different from Kaoru; he’s cold and harsh only wishing to make Kaoru’s life a living hell. The two are technically separate beings and are unable to remember what the other has said or done, which is both good and bad depending on the person. To do this Yui either tries to get Kaoru in trouble by forcing him into random fights and usually ending up with different girl every night.
Considering he is not the dominant personality, Yui can’t take over any time that he likes, only when Kaoru’s emotions of anger, fear or trauma trigger him. The only other exception is when Kaoru spots a girl that he likes; for reasons unknown this triggers Yui. These feelings can be replicated in some of Kaoru’s dreams causing either Yui to wake up that moment or be the first up the next morning.
History Info
Home Country; Northern Water Tribe
siblings;
history;Kaoru grew up on a small island that was part of the Northern Water Tribe which not even most of the tribe knew about. There were only about thirty people on the island including Kaoru’s family and it was a place where everyone knew each other like a member of their family. Kaoru’s parents were fishers and while growing up, he would stay behind with the other members of the village. As he grew older the fairly mellow child started to show quite the temper and would on occasion go into tantrums after being mildly provoked. The strangest thing was that he would never remember his outbursts. Everyone on the island merely shrugged it off and didn’t put any thought into it.
From an early age he showed signs of waterbending, and often imitated the only other waterbender on the island. At the age of eight, his parents started bringing him on their fishing trips and as the years passed the two started bringing him on every trip. Despite his tantrums, his parents would bring him into markets and other places with hopes he would keep himself under control. Usually he wouldn’t slide into a tantrum unprovoked but there was the occasion he would have one regardless of the situation. Other than the tantrums, Kaoru was typically shy around people and would usually cling to his mom when around large groups of people. While still shy he gradually stopped clinging and at the age of eleven, he would simply walk close to his mother while walking through crowds.
One day, the family decided it was time to head back from fishing between the Western Air Temple and the Burning Legion a little early. They had plenty of fish that Kaoru had learned how to freeze so they could stay preserved until they returned to the island. His father had spotted another boat in the distance but didn’t think anything of them. The other people had gained on their boat and boarded and without thought killed Kaoru’s father. Kaoru’s mother tried to attack the pirates which caused them to kill her on the spot as well. Unfortunately Kaoru was a witness to all of this, the combination of fear, trauma and anger ripped the boy’s already fractured psyche in two.
His eyes intensified and the young waterbender attacked the pirates, not as Kaoru but another person entirely. Of course with his inexperience, he was unable to control the water with his rage and the pirates simple tossed him from the boat. When Kaoru had “opened his eye” he was in the water and the boat was pulling away. Despite being heartbroken about his parents’ murder, he swam for the nearest shore. By the time he reached it, he was exhausted from fighting the tide and simply washed up on the shore. An airbender named Erity Lien. The girl had also recently lost her mother who was a healer for the temple so the two found a definite common ground. She was the first person to experience his other personality and even named the other person Yui as a shortened version of his last name.
Kaoru and Erity became very close friends, and the two would often sit at the beach, waiting for a boat for his island to come get him. Kaoru almost didn’t want them to find him since he had become such good friends with Erity . After a few years at the temple, however he decided to leave and go on a quest to find his island and become a better water bender. Before he left, he promised he would come back to Erity and the two could travel all over the world. When he was fifteen he left the island to travel back to the Northern Water Tribe to ask around about his village, but not looking forward to finding them.
Figuring the biggest city of the Northern Water Tribe would be the best bet for any hope of finding his island. When he made it to the North Pole, he was able to meet a master waterbender named Atma. He was a different sort that only showed him a few simple techniques, and figured meditating and the like was more important. He only spent about six months under Atma until he decided to move on. Kaoru wanted to find his island but to do this he had to wander and ask if anyone had heard of it. It took him another year and a half to find someone that knew anything about the island and its location which was almost impossible to find if someone hadn’t been there at least once. Luckily he was able to get a boat with one of the retired North Pole traders.
When he returned to the island, he was greeted by everyone with open arms. All of them felt guilt that they didn’t look for him, guessing he died with his parents. Everyone was willing to bring him back in with the group, but he was hesitant to. He had promised Erity that he would return to the Air Temple so the two could travel together. He spent another six months on the island to pick up a few more tricks from the two local waterbenders then set off to return to the temple. It was during this part of his training he found out that he had the ability to heal cuts and other injuries of the sort. After learning a few more things he set off. Finally reunited with Erity, Kaoru decided to go traveling once again, but this time the two were going together, keeping the promise made when they were children.
Other Stuffs
As said in the personality, Kaoru and Yui are two different people in one body pretty much. Each time the other takes over he would have no memory of what the other had said or done. But because they’re in the same body they can sometimes mentally communicate short conversations. When Yui is about to take over, Kaoru goes into a short daze; it is the same the other way around.[/size]

It had been years, but Kaoru was finally heading back to the Western Air Temple. Three years had seemed to pass rather slowly, so his excitement was practically bubbling. Of course, due to its distance, it was difficult to make the trip in one shot, so the crew decided to dock at a small town, possibly for the night. Considering he had plenty of time to kill, Kaoru decided to wander the market not too far from the dock to see if there was anything interesting to bring back. While he was browsing, something else that caught not only his attention. Kaoru started to feel slightly dizzy and everything around him started to blur, evidently Yui wanted out.
”Heh, shouldn’t have been paying attention.” Yui said under his breath. He looked to the girl that had caught Kaoru’s attention. He had good taste, when it came to some girls but for the most part he really liked the plain ones. This was one of Kaoru’s few redeeming moments of interest and Yui had a reason to be out. He smirked and walked to where the girl was standing and decided to share a short conversation. With luck this girl seemed desperate for some kind of attention and Yui was more than willing to give his attention to her. Kaoru had no idea what he was going to wake up the next morning.
Kaoru’s eyes opened and it was the next morning, once again he was sharing a bed with some girl he had never seen before. He put his hand over his face with embarrassment then looked down to the girl that was sleeping soundly. With a light sigh, he snuck out of the bed and went back to the dock, hoping that the boat didn’t leave without him. He spotted the ship as he walked closer, this would be the final stretch to get to the Western Air Temple. Hopefully Yui would stay contained for the most part when around Erity. Even though she was the first to find out about Yui, he still didn’t want her to witness how he was anymore. Well nothing he would be able to do about it for the moment. Kaoru boarded the boat and took a heavy sigh, eager to get to the Temple.
