Zasume's eyes followed his footsteps as he listened to each leaf crunch under the force of his boots. He clenched the map in his right hand, taking care not to drop it anytime soon. He wasn't thinking about anything in particular. Well, except for Ryumo. But that was a normal thing. It seemed as if he just didn't have time for minor things like he used to. He and Ayame used to sit underneath the stars in Ba Sing Se, watching each falling bead of light fly across the night sky. Zasume managed a small smile at this thought. She was to be his wife, his companion, his treasure. But now...she was but a memory, overshadowed by the continous flow of demonic entities. The seemingly unbreakable relationship between them faltered after her death. He couldn't stand to watch as her health and strength slowly deteriorated, making Ayame a....nothing. Zasume could not count how many nights he cried. Sadness and grief would flow into his conscience each time he remembered her. But he also remembered his promise....to fulfill his life with or without her. And that was exactly what he intended to do.
Finding out who Ryumo was exactly took Zasume about five years. After their dramatic confrontation, it was as if Ryumo had just disappeared. He knew the young boy held nothing but pure and and unbridle hatred for him. And it was well justified. Zasume's past actions were indeed inexcusable, and Ryumo felt he had to make him pay for it. He also knew the boy was no longer a "boy" now. He was a man, 22 years old to be exact. Zasume didn't know what to think of his quickly maturing younger brother. And he couldn't believe his brother's current occupation.
Officer and assassin of the Burning Legion's very own Execution Squad.
Ryumo's reputation was very well known across the nations, as were the other assassins. Hundreds of official assassinations were recorded in Ryumo's name. Zasume didn't know whether to be pleased with his brother's skill in combat or disheartened at the target of his skills. The two brothers' characteristics were eerily close to each other. The only separating factor was that Ryumo's skills seemed to be for the good of the world, while Zasume put his skills towards various points of what could be called evil. The two were bound by blood. And the only thing that could separate them was the spirit of death. Zasume felt that his end was near.
The Black Forest was indeed a black forest. The trees looked almost nightmarish in the winding darkness before him. Zasume could see his path, but he knew that he would have to continue walking or he would be lost. He always felt like he was being watched closely by some unidentified being. He wasn't fearful but...it was something to look out for. Zasume stopped for a moment and opened the map in his hands. He reached into his right pocket and pulled out a small brass compass and held it next to the map.
North.
And so he would continue. He imagined that he was the only one on this path, which was fine. Silence would give him more time to meditate, if needed. The Sun Parched Plains were about 4 days away. He could take his time.
"I'm coming to see you brother..." he said lowly.
