At the request of a confused citizen of AWU I am proud the bring you;
The Plot: The Simple Version.
The Plot: The Simple Version.
After the war ended, there was peace for about 100 years and everyone was getting along. Aang brought back the Airbenders with energy bending and restored the temples, the Southern Water Tribe was built back up again and is made into a great place like the North and the Swamp began to advance as well. Zuko as Fire Lord oversees the return of Earth Kingdom lands and helps reinstate the monarchy there and promotes a peaceful coexistence across the world which lasts for about one hundred years, after which Aang dies in 110 A.W. Shortly after everything goes downhill.
The Earth Kingdom is the victim of a coup, led by their industrial giants which marginally succeeds. They take a large portion of land from the Serpents pass to the coast and bordering the Si Wong Desert. At this same time, militant leaders in Omashu join them and gather their forces taking a good portion of the Earth Kingdom from the borders of the industrial rebels to the north around the Si Wong Desert and eventually are stopped by heavy fighting through the Eastern Mountains and the plains. After heavy fighting the two rebel states manage to broker peace with their parent nation and ally together.
After this a large number of troops are withdrawn to Ba-Sing-Se, leaving the Southern Islands of the Earth Kingdom feeling very exposed and they eventually defect and become their own sovereign state. Their leadership however is weak and most of the island to the East sells itself to the Eastern Air Temple to protect them while the three islands at the West end of the chain follow suit and give themselves to the Southern Water Tribe, leaving only the central island and half the Eastern island alone. They quickly join the other two rebel Earth Kingdom provinces and become the Allied Earth States.
In 80 A.W. a cult rises in the Northwest landmass of the Earth Kingdom which seeks to destroy the Avatar and make the world a place where humans are able to make the ultimate decision rather than a divine being and are called The Free World Movement. Eventually the Earth Kingdom pushes this part of the Kingdom away after the cult breaks into the mainstream, wanting nothing to do with what they represent and fearing what it could mean if they did associate with them. They became their own church state and were unofficially supported by the Allied Earth States, though they were not a part of the pact.
All this time communications between the North and South Poles steadily break down until the South is again isolated in 129 A.W. as they were during The War and the North and Swamp tribes proceeds to help the Earth Kingdom through aid.
A large population of Airbenders from before the war emerges from the mountains in the Earth Kingdom in 131 A.W. and are hateful towards the new benders. They take the Northern Temple for themselves and boot out the current occupants. They become very isolationist and begin building up their military options for fear of a second genocide.
Meanwhile the Southern Water Tribe, after having expanded thanks to the secession of the Southern Islands they began to militarize and came under the rule of a powerful warlord in 132 A.W. Heavy military code was enforced and they look to create a new war to expand the Southern area of influence further. They have expanded across the poles and grown drastically in number and power in the last hundred and thirty years and look to make the Allied Earth States their allies for the coming days ahead.
After the removal of a great number of troops to guard the border with the Allied Earth States in 133 A.W., the Old Airbenders in the Northern Air Temple take the opportunity they have and spread their troops out among the mountains that they had once lived in, taking them from the Earth Kingdom without a fight. The EK does not oppose them, but stations a small garrison at the base of the mountains with to draw the line at which they stop expanding so as not to cause open war. The Earth Kingdoms military is stretched thin between watching the large border they share with the Allied Earth States and now the Northern Air Empire.
The Free World Movement eventually lures the Avatar to their lands in 138 A.W. after their power grows significantly enough to be recognized as a threat to the world’s stability. There the cult’s followers intend to throw the Waterbender Avatar into the Spirit Realm, effectively locking her spirit away and breaking the Avatar cycle forever. They manage to open the portal, but by sacrificing herself and refusing to enter the avatar state as they tried to make her do, she dies, foiling their plans and in the process unleashes an untold amount of energy which breaks the control the cultists have on the portal. The portal then spreads across the land and destroys everything there, killing many people as a wave of demon beings swarm across. The Earth Kingdom reacts swiftly by sending their troops to keep the demons at bay.
The forces holding off the demons becomes known as the Bulwark, the army itself called the Shield, and is ceded away late in 138 A.W. as a military outpost which is able to act as its own semi independent nation, and three of the five generals are sent to govern. They are loyal and dependant on the Earth Kingdom to which they will return once they have succeeded in their efforts of closing the Spirit Rift. Forces from the Water Tribe, Western Air Temple, and even the Allied Earth States unite to fight the demons.
At the same time in 138 A.W. the Execution Squad begins a plot that has been years in planning. After an attempt to wipe out his own retinue of assassins, the Fire Lords group called the Execution squad retreats to the Earth Kingdom to lick its wounds and then set themselves up to take revenge. They send envoys to all the nations and gather their own fighting force to command and, after a deceptive ploy, they invade the Fire Nation from the Western Air Temple and take it over in a matter of weeks. Troops along with soldiers from their deception travel from the Bulwark up the island chain of the Fire Nation and hold their positions after eliminating any threats there. The Fire Lord is killed on the steps of his palace and any loyalists are dealt with. The Nation is then split up by the Execution Squad and they take over as regional governors for what they call The Burning Legion.
Narrowly making their escape, minor nobles from the Fire Nation escape the slaughter of the royal family and make their way to the friends in the Earth Kingdom and ask for sanctuary so that they may recover from the wound they have been dealt. They are given a small island in the northeast where they set up a rallying point to all Fire Nation vessels and troops in the world still, vowing vengeance and the return of the royal family to the throne.
And this brings us to the present day, 145 A.W., seven years after the fall of the Fire Nation and the rise of the Spirit Rift. There has been no sign of a new Avatar, many fears the cycle broken. The Southern Tribe seeks to start a new war with the help of other allies and the Earth Kingdom looks as though any more added to their load may break them once and for all. Northern Air Benders are growing restless as are the Allied Earth States. Meanwhile in the Bulwark, the Western Air Temple, the Northern Water Tribe, and the newly coined Burning Legion look to keep the Spirit Rift at bay while the bloody and seemingly fruitless ground war is fought to find a solution. And the Eastern and Southern Air Temples sit at the base of a maelstrom where war could occur any second and make them causalities. It’s up to you to either help or hurt this situation. Where do your loyalties lie?
